Kim's little patch of space...

The title of this blog is the reason for its existance. Its a nice sunny patch of garden with a nice big tree with a swing to sit under and lots of sunflowers... As for its creator, she is a postgrad student who has a tendency to take life a bit too seriously. Currently she is on a journey of self discovery and has no idea where it will take her...she may well find the meaning of life.

After the easter break...

*sigh* the easter break seems so long ago (it was only 2 weeks ago). But it was good just to stay away from the lab, though not thinking about my project was a completely different matter (I just don't think its possible to not think about it). Watched a lot of TV, and went and saw Meet the Robinsons, which is fun, funny film with a happy ending (yay!) and 300, which is a bit slow (especially with the battle scenes) but there were a few inspirational scenes..."fight for sparta!".

But back from the easter break, its back to the usual routine of doing lab work (that's not working), lab work, demonstrating to my prac class (my students were good yesterday and they managed to be the first group to finish, with the topic I hate, enzyme kinetics, yay!) and trying to write a talk about my project to my lab group, which I have to do in 6 hours...which isn't done yet.

But a highlight of the past couple of weeks had to be seeing the show Miss Saigon. Although I had trouble seeing the right hand side of the stage, I really enjoyed it. And *whispers* I couldn't help but cry at the end, it was so sad...*sigh* when did I become so emotional? - I wasn't like this before... but I think after seeing Miss Saigon, I've realised that I quite enjoy theatre, so I'll be aiming to see "Phantom of the opera" when it starts in Melbourne in June. Or maybe see a university made theatre production, that's still on my to do list...

Anyways, that's in June. Back to that talk I think, but I've got a wedding to go to this weekend, which should be fun (its been a while since I've been to one!). A friend of a friend type wedding, where I barely know the couple getting married!

A few hours ago was total panic, as I had to submit a review article for a journal (and a chemistry one...what the? I'm a pseudo biochemistry/immunologist!) that had been covered in revisions by my supervisor, which I had to complete. Arrrgh. The most difficult one was to find a series of journal articles to reference, but I had to admit defeat - I didn't have the time, and hopefully they're not necessary *fingers crossed* That's the problem when you have a review that needs to be submitted by a deadline. And :P I didn't get a chance to write who could be sent a free copy of that journal if the article is published....and to top it all off, I accidently sent the wrong file to the editor...panic, panic PANIC!!! I'm thanking my lucky stars that I realised in time, and I was able to send the right version :)

And now its the easter break. I'm so happy its arrived, can kind of relax, until the guilt (the guilt associated when doing a PhD project) sets in and I realise how little I've done since my 12 month confirmation. Will have to write some more to do lists, try and be more efficient. But doing heaps of fun stuff with people (i.e. not PhD related!) that I haven't been able to do b/c of the 12 month confirmation and then that review. Oh no, there's still one more review to go....no! Don't think about it just yet....

I'll just worry about all the chocolate and hot cross buns I'm eating...it doesn't help that chocolate was everywhere, everywhere in the lab, and I couldn't help eating it all, it was so nice :) But I restrained myself when it came to my Lindt chocolate bunny, its just too cute to eat (yet)!

Happy easter everyone! :)

Oops, note to self. Don't use a draft of a previous blog post, as the dates of events get mixed up. The glow in the dark mini golf, and the acquisition of the Austin Powers Shagadelic DVD box set only happened on Sunday. (which was the 2nd of April)

So yah, slowly finding that project mojo, and pigging out on chocolate hot cross buns - yum! Oh, and being sick. Hopefully that will go away - its hard to do experiments and talk to people when you are.
