Kim's little patch of space...

The title of this blog is the reason for its existance. Its a nice sunny patch of garden with a nice big tree with a swing to sit under and lots of sunflowers... As for its creator, she is a postgrad student who has a tendency to take life a bit too seriously. Currently she is on a journey of self discovery and has no idea where it will take her...she may well find the meaning of life.

*sigh* I've been reading my brother's blog, which is actually quite interesting and depressing at the same time. Interesting b/c I get to hear about what's going on, but depressing b/c I don't post as frequently, so as a result, its like a disjointed picture and not fun to read.

But what has been happening? Been on an emotional rollercoster again, as I've lost faith in my project. Its like surfing, I need to ride out this wave, but :P it sucks while I'm in the wave. Hopefully, in Austin Powers speech, "I'll find my mojo, baby, yeah!" The easter break might help. But I'm finding little things remind of why I wanted to do this silly project, so I guess I'm finding my project mojo. Thanks to Chris, Roza and Brett for helping me find my project mojo :) (It doesn't help I'm now the proud owner of the Austin Powers Shagadelic DVD box set)

A dancing update: On my quest to learn how to dance, I've gone to another salsa and tango lesson. I've learnt that I have more fun if I relax, and try not to worry so much if I don't worry so much about not getting the steps right. At my last tango lesson, I felt the passion of the tango for an entire dance sequence! YAY! It helped a lot that we were both beginners. It meant that you're not so self conscious and can relax a bit. We found that if we looked at each other instead of the floor it was easier to do the steps. There's also something about looking into someones eyes as you're tango dancing - its very intense. But we lost it after that - so it was back to looking at the ground. Hopefully I can go to more dancing lessons, but I'll stick to salsa for now, its easier to learn.

Ooooh, here's something I've done that I think people should do before they die.....glow in the dark mini golf. Its fun, but something you can only do once. And don't wear white, as you'll have a radioactive glow.

I didn't believe that it was possible, but I survived a week without a watch! Admittedly, there are a lot of things around that do have the time e.g computer, lab clock, my cat clock etc but still, its amazing considering I'm one of those people who have worn a watch everyday (well almost) since I've been seven. And I'm now twenty-three. You do the math (lol, that sounds so American!)

I'm finally breathing a bit easier now, as I've done my 12 month confirmation - YAY!!!! It didn't go according to plan (it had been a horrible sad week, and it all came to breaking point during the confirmation meeting), but the importnat thing is that I'm confirmed. I'm an official PhD student (well until the paperwork is submitted). But life goes on, there's still things that are happening, so it looks like I'll be a bit busy for a while, with a review to write, demonstrating to do, and a BAMBII AGM coming up this week :P

Enough about worrying about what's coming up...I'm addressing one of the things on my to do list - to learn how to dance. Its a very slow process, but lots of fun. I'm working through my dance gift voucher from Brett and Roza, so tonight its salsa...

Yay! My meeting with my supervisor to discuss my report for my 12 month review happened yesterday (and it wasn't rescheduled again!). :P problem is that I've got to make changes, and give him the revised edition on Monday...oh well - that's to be expected.

My watch ran out of batteries yesterday, so I had no watch. It was really strange, as I'm one of those people who need to wear a watch, else I feel like something is missing. Today is day two, lets see how I go, or if I start suffering withdrawal symptoms. A lack of a watch isn't that much of a problem - as in the lab, there is a clock, and in the lab office the computer has the time. Plus I have another clock on my desk in case I'm not logged in the computer. Plus my mobile and my iPod have the time.

Woo hoo, the weekend is coming up - it will be good to 'recharge' as I'm running a bit low on energy and emotional energy. Using up the reserve supply at the moment. Sleep, sleep and more sleep! :)
