Kim's little patch of space...

The title of this blog is the reason for its existance. Its a nice sunny patch of garden with a nice big tree with a swing to sit under and lots of sunflowers... As for its creator, she is a postgrad student who has a tendency to take life a bit too seriously. Currently she is on a journey of self discovery and has no idea where it will take her...she may well find the meaning of life.

Arrgh, today was not one of those days I want to remember. It didn't help that I started it tired and irritable-ish. The main thing was that I stuffed two experiments! One is bad enough, but two rings major alarm bells that something is very, very wrong (chucked a constrained hissy fit in the lab). I probably should slept in that extra hour. And it was something I've done before...damn those Western Blots! Needed more sleep, or at the very least, don't go to the gym after you haven't had a lot of sleep.

But today, it seemed like everyone was in a tired/irritable mood. Maybe I started the epidemic, or it spread to me? That's the question. Ah well, away from the lab puts it in perspective. Tomorrow is another day after all. But in every day that you want to forget, there is something you want to remember. From drinking apple blackcurrant juice (which I haven't had for ages), talking for Roza in between experiments, and talking to Ryan as he ran his gel, to having dinner at home - those were the good moments.

Making the most of this week before demonstating starts, which will eat up a lot of time. Hopefully by getting more sleep will be better experiment wise.

Oh, that's the other thing - how many times can a meeting be rescheduled? I've actually been very lucky, it hasn't happened to me in my PhD until now. But I think a meeting for my 12 month confirmation (for feedback for my report before the thing actually happens) has been rescheduled 4 times in 5 days...although my supervisor and I are both at fault. Its been scheduled for Thursday, lets see if it happens.

An update of sorts...

The last couple of months have been a kind of blur, and I've realised that I have a blog, but don't use it. I know my brain feels cluttered. I guess a lot has happened...

December: (after the last post)
went on three different road trips in the space of a week between christmas and new year...from riding on puffing billy in the cold and rain....to going to Ashcombe maze in the Mornington Peninsula and going gnome and fairy hunting....to going to the beach along the great ocean road and getting tanned...then it was new year's eve in the city watching the fireworks along the yarra river...

January:
Lab work and more lab work to prepare for my first national conference in Lorne....birthday season with Despina, then Chris (meeting his family), then me....feeling very spoilt and loved for my birthday - it felt like a religious holiday with my birthday drinks, then lunch with Brett and Roza, then birthday dinner with my family....then my conference in Lorne....which was an interesting experince...from drinking on the balcony at the Lorne pub with my lab and other drunken moments to going to the Erskine Falls then walking all the way back along the road, watching the sunrise and working on my tan...then getting back and realising it was February-

February:
Lab work mostly, and preparing for my 12 month review of my PhD...arrrgh. Hopefully life will be less hectic once that is over...

Not bad summing up what's been happening in one post! I'll try to post more often, if I can figure out how to post via email which will keep posts short and sweet (and make it more blog like!) :)
